Shipping! Do pieces ever break!?

What Happens When Furniture Gets Damaged in Shipping (And Why We Still Feel Good About It)
There’s a moment every furniture maker dreads.
You open your email: Customer - Subject Line: DAMAGED FURNITURE… and your stomach drops.
Broken joinery. Cracked panels. A piece that left your shop perfect—and didn’t make it to your customer that way.
It’s the worst.
We handcraft vinyl record cabinets and ship them all across the U.S.—fully assembled.
That last part is important.
We don’t flat-pack. We don’t cut corners on materials. What you get is exactly what leaves our shop: solid, finished, and ready to use.
But shipping fully assembled furniture comes with risk.
No matter how carefully something is built… once it leaves our hands, a lot can happen.
The Reality of Shipping Furniture
Even with careful packaging and trusted carriers, damage does happen.
In 2025:
- We had 3 total losses
- We handled 6 small fixes or credits
- Across 1,500+ shipments
That’s the reality of moving handmade furniture at scale. And every single time it happens—it still sucks.
Because for us, it’s not just a product. It’s something we made by hand. Something we’re proud of.
And for the customer, it’s worse.
Opening something you were excited about… only to find it damaged? That’s a terrible experience.
The Numbers (That Actually Matter)
When you zoom out, though, the data tells a bigger story:
- 0.6% damage rate
- 0.2% total loss rate
Those aren’t just numbers—they reflect how much care goes into:
- Our construction
- Our packaging systems
- Our shipping process
Could it be zero? Ideally, yes.
But in the real world of freight, conveyors, and cross-country transit—this is what “doing it right” actually looks like.
What Happens When Something Goes Wrong
Here’s the part we care about most:
We stand behind every piece we ship.
We offer a shipping guarantee, which means:
- If something arrives damaged, we make it right
- Replacements or fixes are handled as quickly as possible
- Customers aren’t left dealing with the problem alone
No runaround. No “file a claim and wait 3 weeks.”
Just: we fix it.
Why We Still Feel Good About It
Of course we wish nothing ever got damaged.
But we also know:
- We’re building things the right way
- We’re shipping them responsibly
- And when issues happen, we take care of people
That’s what matters most.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about furniture.
It’s about trust.
