We are launching a brand ambassador program!

I get emails and messages fairly often from people asking about receiving our furniture pieces for free/or at a discount in exchange for promotion via their instagram, youtube, tiktok, podcast, you name it!

My answers range from “yes”, to “no”, to “circle back later”. A lot of that has nothing to do with the people that have reached out. It mostly has had to do with what I’ve had on my plate as a small business owner. How to make sure both parties are getting value from the exchange?

But I would love to engage more with the creators who are interested and champions of what we do here at Sidetracked Workshop. So we have found some time to systematize a program here and are looking for interested brand ambassadors! Read more if you want to be part of the program!

Cheers,

Peter

What this program is:

It's a product in exchange for promotion style program. We give you free or discounted furniture pieces, and in exchange our ambassadors use their creativity to share Sidetracked Workshop with their audiences. At this time the ambassador program does not include straight up paid (as in cold hard cash) promotion. We experimented with this in the past, and at this time we have no plans to pursue new paid promotions with content creators.

We will consider anyone for this program. It's not restricted to just one option or audience type. Have an instagram following, a blog with demonstrable page views, a podcast, something else? Reach out! Different audiences have different values to us, but the worst we can say is “it’s not a good fit for us right now”

At this time, we are only selecting ambassadors that reach out to us! We are not really interested in having people who don’t care about our craft pushing our product. We want people who are excited about what we do - that will really come through!

You will have creative control of how you promote Sidetracked Workshop! You know your audience, you know how to create content, we chose you for a reason! We will provide some general big picture guidelines, rails, and expectations, but you should run with it creatively!

We don’t have a one size fits all deal for each ambassador: We have some general expectations from each content creator, but larger followings and a greater number of total Sidetracked promotions might qualify certain ambassadors for more substantial furniture pieces than others. Our pieces are pretty expensive! We aren’t just giving away t-shirts here, we need to make sure that we are getting enough value, and also that you are! Let’s figure out something for your situation!

Criteria we will use to evaluate potential ambassadors:

The modern media landscape is complex, it's impossible to create a standard rubric, but here are some things we will be looking at.

1. Recent posting (as relevant) performance. Followers are in some sense dead on algorithmic social media these days. The trends and impressions on your past 3-6 months of postings are going to be more important than total legacy following.

2. Total size of audience/following

3. Actual quality of content. Is it good, is your audience engaged? Maybe you don’t do huge metrics right now, but if you make great content that resonates with a dedicated following, that matters a lot!

4. Have you done brand promotions/integrations in the past?  How well has that been received in the past? How have you integrated those with your standard content? As a great example of how to do a brand integration well, look how John Schauster integrated our product into his popular content format: https://www.instagram.com/p/DHXOKQXRNJf/?hl=en

5. Is your content a good fit for our brand? Both as a creative personality, but also how close is your niche to our market.

6. Audience demographicsThis is key! We make a very specific product, and we only sell in the U.S. You might have a huge following and great content, but if it's not reaching the right audience, it might actually be worth pretty little to us.
